A handwoven tapestry depicting one of the seven panels of the "Hunt of the Unicorn" created by Jean d'Ypres in the 16th century; here the panel "The Hunters Enter the Woods". The series tells the story of hunters traversing the woods with their dogs in pursuit of the unicorn, a mythical creature first mentioned by the Greek physician Ctesias in the 4th century BC. In the Middle Ages, the animal was primarily known for its supposed invincibility and the therapeutic properties of its horn (New York, Metropolitan). Made of cotton wool, lined, with a ring loop at the top for hanging. Period: 20th century. Dimensions approximately 145 X 100 cm. Very good condition.
