This elegant Louis-Philippe period commode, dating from the mid-19th century, embodies the very essence of French craftsmanship. Made of carefully selected burr walnut, it features a sumptuous "butterfly wing" veneer, whose symmetrical pattern highlights the natural grain and undulations of the wood with remarkable finesse. The cabinetmaker who crafted it demonstrated exceptional skill: each veneer sheet was meticulously chosen and then arranged according to a rigorous design to achieve a result that is both harmonious and spectacular. The structure is assembled using mortise and tenon joints, ensuring strength and durability, and the drawers are dovetailed, in keeping with the grand tradition of French cabinetmaking. The commode opens to reveal five drawers: a top drawer with a cyma molding, discreetly integrated into the frieze; three spacious central drawers; and a secret drawer, subtly concealed in the lower plinth. The original keyhole escutcheons are preserved, along with a working antique key. It rests on swashplate feet, ensuring excellent stability. The back of the piece is entirely made of solid wood and has not been restored; it is in exceptional condition. The whole is topped with a superb, original Gris Saint-Anne marble slab in perfect condition. This marble, with its delicate veining and subtle hue, creates an elegant contrast with the warmth of the walnut, highlighting the balanced proportions and refinement of the piece. Discovered in a beautiful home in the Loire Valley, this chest of drawers has been carefully passed down through generations. Passed on with respect and love, it has been meticulously cared for by descendants and retains the imprint of family history. The drawers have been carefully cleaned and slide perfectly: the piece is ready for use. It will fit elegantly into any type of interior, whether classic or contemporary – in a bedroom, living room, dining room or office.
