This antique pine wood sideboard features two doors with a profiled perimeter frame. It originates from northern China, dating from the end of the Qing dynasty, where the pine was crafted using a traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Narrow sideboards with two doors belong to the domestic register of northern Chinese furniture. Their reduced depth — 40 cm in this case — made them suitable for transitional spaces: side walls, vestibules, and passage areas between rooms. The height exceeding the width gives it an almost vertical, light proportion typical of urban pieces from the region. The body is constructed from solid pine. The structure is a rectangular volume closed by two doors with a profiled perimeter frame featuring double moulding and a central reserved top. Below the doors, there is a lower band with two framed panels. The handles are made of wrought iron, with a circular ring fixed by a rivet. The base rests on integrated feet. The joinery is traditional Chinese mortise and tenon, without screws. The patina of the pine shows a naturally aged tone, with visible grain and soft chromatic variations between the boards. The door frames exhibit slight darkening on the edges; the central surface retains a lighter tone. The hardware shows stable oxidation. The surface of the top retains slight signs of use. Details.
