Ingo Maurer, the German poet of light

Ingo Maurer (1932-2019) is probably the greatest German lighting designer of the 20th century. Born on Lake Constance, trained in typography then graphic design, he founded his studio in Munich in 1966 and developed there for five decades a poetic, sensitive, never conformist body of work. His first lamp, Bulb (1966), celebrated the bulb as an object. Then came Birds Birds Birds (1992), Zettel'z (1997), Lucellino (1992). Each piece tells a story. Ingo Maurer doesn't light a room: he stages the light.

The Bulb lamp, Birds Birds Birds pendant and Zettel'z remain Ingo Maurer's most iconic pieces. German vintage lighting to find for those wanting a signature object, on the border between design, conceptual art and poetry.
