The face is highlighted by a dark background, typical of Monvoisin's academic style, with great finesse in the details: textures of the velvet, lace, the brilliance of the jewels. 📜 About the artist: Raymond Auguste Quinsac Monvoisin was one of the most active French painters of the 19th century, trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux and then in Paris. Inspired by Neoclassicism and Romanticism, he made a career in France and then in South America (Chile, Argentina) where he produced numerous portraits of the aristocracy and political figures. His work is today compared to that of Gérard, Gros or Girodet. 📅 Dating: 1846, a period when the artist was active between France and South America. 🖼️ Technique: Original oil on canvas, not relined, presented in a richly decorated period gilt frame which adds character and value to the whole. 📏 Dimensions: With frame: 82 X 70 cm Without frame: 64 X 54 cm 🔍 Condition: Painting in its original condition, condition as in the photos, some visible losses and wear, particularly on the face and the background - restoration recommended to restore all the pictorial quality.
