Very nice portrait, oil on canvas, representing a young woman in a black dress, wearing a jewel at the collar and earrings. The artist here wanted to bring out I think her rather melancholic air or perhaps, was she shy to pose for a painter The painting is signed lower left h moutier and dated 1907: hippolyte moutier (1880-1975) is a painter especially specialized in landscape painting and still life, much more rarely portraits. This painting is framed in a magnificent molded frame, carved with foliage, acanthus leaves and stylized friezes. Condition: the painting is in perfect condition, except for a small distension of the canvas at the top left. As for the frame it has two small gaps in the corners at the top (not visible hung), some traces of cracks of uses and we can see appear old restorations on the corners by zooming.
