Oil on canvas. English school, 19th century. Half-length portrait of a lady seated by a window overlooking an English countryside landscape. The lady wears a simple, almost severe black dress, but brightened and enhanced with refined lace and ruffles. A few significant but understated pieces of jewelry are visible among the lace. The lace veil on her head is adorned with small white flowers. Resting on her lap and held in her hands are the lady's glasses and a lace-edged handkerchief. The painting is still on its original canvas. It is presented in a frame from the early 20th century. A few significant but understated pieces of jewelry can be seen.
