Antique painting portrait of a military gentleman, Arturo FALDI (Florence 1856-1911)

Oil on canvas with carved and gilded wooden frame - Original work by the painter Arturo Faldi - Depicting a gentleman in uniform - Second half of the 19th century - Frame dimensions: 90 X 700 cm Arturo Faldi (Florence 1856-1911) He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where his teachers were Giovanni Muzzioli and Michele Gordigiani. Until 1880, he devoted himself to historical-mythological genre painting. In 1881, with La trecciaiuola, he moved away from this genre to approach the style of the Macchiaioli. Building on the success of this painting, exhibited under the title "Peasant Woman of Italy" at the Paris Salon, he continued to favor realistic subjects, often focusing on the relationship between peasant work and nature. Two of his paintings were honored by King Umberto I: "Honeymoon, " donated to the Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Turin, and "May God Accompany Them, " donated to the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome. They are now in the office of the first president of the Court of Cassation. During the last years of his life, he taught and was president of the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence.
