Portuguese coffee table in Brazilian rosewood, 18th century

This remarkable table is crafted from solid turned and richly carved rosewood, adorned with openwork gilt-bronze mounts on the legs and around the locks. Its four legs are joined by turned wooden stretchers. It features two drawers that open from one side only, with working locks and their two keys. On each side, the carved fronts of the false drawers and the openwork bronze false locks harmonize perfectly. Apart from minor old wear on one of the bronze ornaments on a leg, restored as shown in the photos, this table is in superb condition. Late 18th century.
