Authentic and ancient screen of literate in red and black lacquered wood, encasing two panels in partially gilded carved wood, originally from china and dating from the nineteenth century, This type of screen was an emblematic object of the chinese scholar. In ancient china, scholars were graduated in order to become civil servants in the service of the state, but if they had the diploma they did not necessarily have the charge, the position. Nor did they constitute a unitary group: the "literate" did not all belong to the same milieu. Some were of aristocratic origin while others came from more or less popular backgrounds. The scholars practiced, or not, one or more arts: poetry, the novel, sometimes satirical, musical creation or interpretation, calligraphy and painting. Overall dimensions: width: 33.5 cm. Height: 52 cm. Depth: 17 cma. Careful packaging made by us. Request a delivery quote!.
