Slant-front desk, chest of drawers, English George III writing desk in oak - 19th century

Slant front desk, English George III style, made of oak with a structured interior - 19th century. Built with solid oak for the facades and panels, featuring remarkable use of quarter-sawn oak on the visible parts. The back and base of the piece are made of softwood. Traditional cabinetmaking joints with visible dovetails on the sides of the drawers. The base consists of four console-type feet extending under a moulded plinth. The lower body opens with four front drawers, stacked with increasing height from top to bottom. Original brass hardware, including drop handles with swan necks fixed to ornate oval backplates, and matching lock entries. The upper part consists of a slanted fall front that opens to form a writing surface. The fall front is supported by two side pull-outs made of wood. The lock on the fall front is functional with a key provided. The locks on the chest are functional on two of the four drawers with the same key. The key for the small door is present, but the closing mechanism is inoperative, using the key as a simple pull knob. Overall condition is satisfactory considering its age. Beautiful patina on the varnished wood. Signs of regular use, scratches, and scattered minor accidents on the structure. A few small veneer lifts or marginal micro-losses. A dark stain (probably from old ink) is fixed on the inner face of the writing surface.
