Rosewood and rosewood marquetry commode, Louis XVI style – late 19th century

Elegant Louis XVI style chest of drawers dating from the late 19th century, made of rosewood and mahogany marquetry. It is topped with a superb white Carrara marble, finely veined with grey, whose edge is worked in a reverse cavetto, highlighting the nobility of the material. This piece opens with four front drawers, each adorned with a rosewood veneer arranged in a butterfly wing pattern, framed by bands of mahogany that accentuate the richness of the decor. Each drawer is equipped with an ornate key, a finely chiselled bronze entry, and a functional lock. The drawers are flanked by pull handles in beaded rings, typical of Louis XVI refinement. The small cut corner uprights are decorated with matching marquetry and enhanced with openwork bronze mounts, adding an extra touch of delicacy. At the bottom, the plinth, also with cut corners, is highlighted with brass mouldings, while the tapered legs end in brass sabot, ensuring both elegance and stability. This chest of drawers gracefully embodies the timeless elegance of the Louis XVI style, where the refinement of materials harmoniously dialogues with the excellence of cabinetmaking craftsmanship. Period: Late 19th century. Excellent condition after restoration in our workshop. Wax finish on a hard base.
