Old wooden chest

An old wooden chest with covers from the late 18th century, featuring an iron lock and original key. Oak chest with moulded edges. The lid is beautifully patinated with large hinges. The interior is fitted with a small "candle box" with a lid. There is a hidden drawer at the bottom with the inscription "AC Ryckaert den 4 anno 1793 Januarus". Originating from the Lichtervelde region in Flanders when it was part of the First French Republic in 1797 after the Revolution. Probably a dowry chest.
