A rare model 21 cantilever chair with a molded plywood seat in Karelian birch. Designed in 1933, this is a chair from the 1930s. Manufactured by O.Y. Huonekalu-ja Rakennustyötehdas A. B. in Turku, Finland. 1930s. This Aalto design updates many of his modern ideals: the object consists of three shaped components, devoid of any ornamentation, and presents a clearly readable construction logic - The design represents Aalto at the height of his creative powers. In stable good condition with a rich honey color. Some small stress cracks on the plywood. The chair has been refinished at an earlier point in its life. There was once a paper label in the center of the upper curve that left a slight indentation in the varnish, still very slightly visible.
