Rare elongated grand plate MBFA Pornic model Caraïbes with a hand-painted stylised fish design. A very expressive piece from the 1950s-60s, featuring its free long format, nuanced bluish-grey glaze, and graphic patterns with marine accents. The decoration combines two tropical fish in an almost abstract composition, surrounded by light swirls and enamel splashes. The muted colours — sand, deep brown, grey-blue, and coral orange — give the whole a very decorative presence without being overwhelming. Stamped MBBFA Pornic (Breton Manufacture of Artistic Faïences). This old stamp with a stylised axe corresponds to the early productions of the manufacture. In beautiful vintage condition, with a few small original firing spots visible in the decoration, consistent with the artisanal production of this period, very shiny (see photos). Length 61.5 cm, maximum width 26 cm, width towards the tip 10 cm. A rare and sculptural ceramic with that mineral tension characteristic of the finest French modernist productions.
