Overview: Single Biedermeier shovel-back dining chair, South Germany, circa 1820. Distinctly restrained Biedermeier silhouette with compact proportions. Design: Broad, gently curved shovel back with a pierced/arched central splat. Slim back stiles continue into splayed rear legs; turned, slightly tapered front legs. Simple, undecorated apron emphasising clean lines. Materials: Cherry veneered construction with book-matched veneer on the large back panel, warm reddish-brown tone. Ebonized intermediate bar at the back provides a contrasting detail. Seat covered in black boucle fabric, edged with decorative nailhead trim.
