A vintage Sapporo lounge chair in solid walnut and original cream textured upholstery, designed by Mario Marenco for Mobil Girgi and produced in Italy during the 1970s. This collectible Italian modern armchair combines generous lounge proportions with a sculptural exposed-wood frame, bringing together the comfort-led character of 1970s Italian design with a strong architectural presence. Designer: Mario Marenco. Maker: Mobil Girgi. Model: Sapporo. Origin: Italy. Period: 1970s. Style: Italian modern / mid-century modern / organic modern. Materials: Solid walnut, original woven textile upholstery, foam cushioning. Dimensions: 95 W × 82 D × 80 H cm (37.4 W × 32.3 D × 31.5 H in) Seat height: 48 cm (18.9 in) Marked: Yes, branded Mobil Girgi to the frame. Quantity: Two available, sold individually. The substantial walnut structure is the defining element of the design. Broad solid-wood side panels form the arms and front legs in one continuous gesture, their softly rounded edges balancing the visual weight of the timber. Deep seat cushions, generously padded backrests and relaxed arm cushions sit within the exposed frame, creating a considered contrast between hard architectural lines and soft upholstery. The original cream fabric has a subtle linear texture that gives the chair additional depth while keeping the overall palette quiet and warm. Condition. Good vintage condition with signs of age and use consistent with its period. The original upholstery presents well overall with light age-related wear and subtle variation consistent with use. The walnut frame shows scratches, small scuffs, surface marks and minor knocks, particularly around some lower edges and exposed areas. A few more visible marks are present to the rear wooden rail. The cushions retain a generous, comfortable shape.
