Painted Folk Art Bridal Cabinet

An extraordinary antique pine bridal cabinet dating from around 1825. This cabinet is simply designed but beautifully painted with floral decorations in the panels; the rest of the cabinet is painted a blue-green. Considering its age, this example is still in good condition, with some signs of wear consistent with its age. The interior of the cabinet currently has a rod, but shelf supports are present, so the cabinet can easily be fitted with shelves. The original working lock with key is also present, and the cabinet can be disassembled into two parts for transport. It was once customary to give bridal furniture like this to the couple at a wedding. These pieces were later placed in a state room on the farm, which was rarely used for distinguished guests or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history.
