This rosewood work table, stamped by the famous Roll* house located at No. 42 Faubourg Saint-Antoine in Paris, is an exceptional piece. It opens with a drawer in a curved belt, enhanced with brass inlays, featuring an authentic lock and a brass inlaid keyhole accompanied by its key. The top, with a beaded edge, is adorned with multiple inlays and a central motif in chiselled and lacquered brass. This top, mounted on hinges and supports, lifts to reveal an interior mercury mirror and an original two-point lock with an inlaid keyhole and its key. The interior offers a removable compartmentalised element. The crossed legs are connected by a turned stretcher, embellished with rosettes at each end, adding a touch of sophistication to this already remarkable piece. This work table perfectly embodies the craftsmanship of the Roll house and the elegance of furniture once crafted in Faubourg Saint-Antoine. *Roll House: Its founder, Joseph Roll (1810-1879), was deputy mayor of the 12th arrondissement of Paris and president of the cabinetmakers' mutual aid society of Paris. He achieved great success with his eponymous business, which contributed to the reputation of Faubourg Saint-Antoine. The Roll house was one of the official suppliers to Napoleon III. ******** Period: Mid 19th century. Excellent condition. Varnished finish. Delivery available in France and internationally. Dimensions: Width: 60 cm. Depth: 40 cm. Height: 73 cm.
