With a striking shape and palette, this pair of Dutch Art Deco vases captures the bold geometry and decorative innovation that defined early 20th-century ceramics. Glazed on a rich salmon background with alternating vertical black panels, stylised white dotting, and ochre spiral rosettes, the vases are accentuated by green and black bands that highlight their elongated silhouettes and architectural symmetry. The glossy finish and graphic ornamentation give each piece a sculptural presence — ideal for a console, a fireplace, or a collection of modernist ceramics. Inscribed on the base with "E.A. Gouda in Zuid Holland Rolf, " the marks differ from the standardised factory stamps and the Lazarus Gate emblem associated with Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland (PZH). Their exact origin is not confirmed, but the vases clearly reflect the stylistic language of Gouda pottery and are best described as Art Deco pieces in the manner of the famous designs from Zuid-Holland. Both vases exhibit fine surface crazing and small chips at the edges and feet, visible only upon close inspection. Their overall condition remains good, with vibrant colours and finely preserved hand-painted detail. Together, they offer a compelling example of Dutch Art Deco craftsmanship, rich in character, geometry, and historical resonance.
