Very beautiful decorative lacquer panel created by Nicolas Seailles in 1978. The work consists of two panels forming a continuous composition, and develops a stylised plant landscape, treated in a palette of browns, patinated greens, gilding, and mineral shades evoking a nocturnal garden. The decor, worked in relief, with a layering of tinted lacquers and incised details, brings the floral and organic motifs to life, seemingly emerging from the surface. In the background, a full moon rises, partially veiled, structuring the composition and introducing a dreamlike dimension, characteristic of the artist's plastic language. This panel reflects Nicolas Seailles' very personal approach, at the intersection of pictorial art, sculpture, and decorative arts. The treatment of the surface, deliberately irregular and patinated, gives the whole a strong depth and architectural presence, reminiscent of certain explorations from the 1910s around material and total art, as well as some lacquer panels by Jean Dunand. This work, both immersive and contemplative, fully fits within the aesthetics of its time, while retaining a timelessness that makes it a unique and expressive decorative piece. These two panels are framed by an oak frame. Each panel is dated and signed in the bottom corner.
