Old Japanese low table with two drawers in wood – Japan, around 1920
Antique Japanese low table made of wood with two drawers in the apron. It comes from Japan, from the Taishō period, around 1920. The sides are arched and rest on pads. Low tables with drawers served as desks for those working seated on the floor: the drawers stored brushes, paper, and utensils, while the top provided a writing surface. The two drawers have carved wooden handles shaped like grips. The sides, with softly curved profiles, are joined by low crossbars and rest on flat pads. The wood shows two tones, the lighter one from the drawers and the darker one from the body, with consistent wear. In a living room, it functions as a low table with storage. It also serves as a low entry bench or a pedestal for a lamp near a sofa. Details. Dimensions: Length 84 cm – Depth 52 cm – Height 35 cm. Style: Taishō period.
