This Japanese coffee table is a small floor desk made from Japanese cedar wood (Cryptomeria japonica), produced in Japan during the Showa period, circa 1926–1970. Originally designed as a supplementary and work surface for traditional interiors, it combines understated functionality with the warmth of everyday Japanese furniture. In Japan, at the beginning of the Showa period, much of domestic life took place at floor level on tatami mats, which encouraged the use of low furniture.
