This antique Japanese coffee table is a wooden floor table with two drawers in the apron. It comes from Japan, from the Taisho era, when domestic life took place at the level of the tatami. These low tables (zataku) were used for eating, writing, or having tea while sitting on the tatami. The drawers kept utensils within reach. The top is made of thick wood, probably zelkova (keyaki), on sturdy legs. The apron houses two drawers with iron handles. The wood retains a warm patina and its visible grain, with soft signs of use. The surface appears authentic, without any restoration that obscures it. Today, it is used as a coffee table, tea table, or low side table. It fits into wabi-sabi, japandi, and rustic interiors, where it brings warmth and texture.
