Oblong Cocoon pendant lamp. Design by Friedel Wauer. Manufactured by Goldkant Leuchten, Germany, in the 1960s. A thin steel structure covered with sprayed resin, imitating fiberglass, creates a soft and pleasant lighting effect. The "cocoon" technology was developed by the German Friedel Wauer, who discovered a mechanical way to cover a steel mesh by imitating the material produced by the silkworm. Many designers, such as George Nelson, Pier & Achille Castiglione and Tobia Scarpa, were fascinated by the lighting effect and the properties of the "cocoon" material. Good overall condition. A darker area and a very small, almost invisible cut are to be noted.
