Empire Showcase Library – Mahogany & Gilded Bronzes

Two-door showcase library in solid mahogany and veneer in Empire style. The upper part consists of two glazed doors providing access to four internal shelves; the lower part features panels in flamed mahogany. The gilded bronze ornamentation is characteristic of the Empire repertoire: a central pediment with facing winged griffins, corner palmettes, engaged columns with rings and bronze capitals, laurel wreaths and floral garlands on the lower doors, and a frieze with scrollwork on the plinth. The intricately chiselled bronze lock entries in the shape of a palm are a detail of fine craftsmanship. The interior back is made of secondary boards, in accordance with the workshop practices of the time. The overall condition shows a patinated wear consistent with the age of the piece: scratches on the varnish, chips, and visible signs of use; cleaning and restoration of the varnish are to be expected.
