Key data. Typology: pair of sgabello chairs. Style: Italian Renaissance. Material: carved walnut, beautiful patina. Period: around 1880. Construction: three parts (backrest, seat, and legs), fully carved. Dimensions (each): height 127 cm, width 42 cm, depth 45 cm. Very beautiful Renaissance-style walnut chairs, dating from the 1880s. The earliest models of this type of seat date back to Italy in the 1450s. Each chair is constructed in three parts: backrest, seat, and legs, delicately carved, mostly in relief, resembling bas-reliefs. The backrest features two rampant lions in profile protecting an oval shield with roundels, surrounded by dense vegetation; at the top, above the lions' heads, a crown, symbolizing power and wisdom. The seat bears engravings in the center and on the sides, evoking a Roman design. At the bottom, a mask of a character surrounded by decorative drapery in the Roman style forming knots. The back mirrors the front shape, without carving, with the two parts connected by a stretcher. Perfectly stable and highly decorative chairs that will attract attention due to the richness of their carving, the color of the walnut, and their patina.
