Metal and painted wood box, probably for cigarettes from the Ruppelwerke [Gotha] factory during the Bauhaus period, which can be attributed to Marianne Brandt. Marked with the logo. The black ink stamp displays the company's characteristic circular logo. Although faded by time, the round shape surrounding the classic brand inscription is discernible. Early 1930s. Dimensions: 10.7 X 9.5 X H6.5 (including the wooden piece on top) In very good vintage condition due to its great age. Please take a good look at the photos which are part of the description. *** The RuppelWerke company [1870-1938, officially Ruppelwerk GmbH, Metallwarenfabrik], located in Gotha, manufactured household items and novelties. To adapt its range, whose design was outdated, to the tastes of the time, it contacted the Bauhaus in Dessau. All hopes rested on Marianne Brandt (a former student and teacher of the Bauhaus metal workshop). Marianne Brandt took up her position in 1929 as "head of the design department for metal articles and mass-produced sheet steel." She was tasked with redesigning and renewing the product range by adopting a modern formal language. Practical ranges intended for the office, wardrobe, and living space. The working relationship ended in October 1932. After the rise of the Nazi regime, the Jewish Ruppel family faced harassment and persecution and emigrated to England. The company was "aryanised" in 1938 and renamed Gothaer Metallwaren Fabrik. *** Careful shipping or personal handover possible in Paris 20th arrondissement.
