Italian Secretary Chest of Drawers by Voltan Marbella, 1970s

A unique and distinctive piece of Italian design furniture from the manufacturer Voltan Industria Mobili - Marbella, combining Art Deco-inspired geometric forms with the elegance of high-gloss black surfaces and richly grained burl wood. The secretary desk's most striking feature is its almost monolithic, architectural design: When closed, it presents itself as a clean, sculptural black form, which, thanks to the beveled top and the warm, amber tone of the burl wood, becomes a true eye-catcher. The contrast between the black and the mirror-smooth, highly decorative wood grain lends the piece a distinctly exclusive, Italian luxury feel. Behind the hinged top panel is a practically divided interior with shelves and two smaller drawers with burl wood fronts. The hinged top panel can also be used as a generous work surface. The lower part of the piece consists of four wide drawers, their fronts finished with a continuous, symmetrically arranged burl wood veneer exhibiting a particularly rich grain. The black interior, revealed when the drawers are pulled out, further emphasizes the sophisticated contrast. The piece is not only decorative but also bears markings that attest to its origin: the inscription "Italy" appears on the back, and "Marbella S.p.A." is inscribed on the bottom of the drawers.
