Bureau d'entre-deux in Boulle marquetry, Napoleon III period – Mid

Elegant Napoleon III period side cabinet, featuring magnificent "Boulle" marquetry, named after Charles-André Boulle, the master cabinetmaker of King Louis XIV, who made this technique famous by using inlaid chiselled brass against a background of tortoiseshell. This ornamental process is found in various places, notably at the top, on the façade and on the uprights, always against a black background of darkened pear wood, thus offering a beautiful contrast. The chiselled brass inlays form intertwined scrolls, garlands, and arabesques. Furthermore, this quality support furniture is enriched with numerous bronzes, including sculpted drops in the shape of mermaids at the top of the uprights, floral-shaped drops, and also in the half-round corners. Two mouldings of the same alloy embellish the upper part. A third scalloped moulding of petals enhances the base in its overhang, while its perimeter, like that of the half-round corners, is finely highlighted with inlays of brass fillet on darkened wood. This piece is topped with a perfectly preserved original veined white Carrara marble, which adds an extra brilliance to the whole.
