The front and sides of the piece are covered with a dense decoration of arabesques and floral scrolls in cut brass set against a tortoiseshell background. The door panels are adorned with two central oval medallions framed in moulded brass. The front uprights are flanked by significant brass drops representing busts of women (Spanish women) ending in acanthus leaves. The base of the piece is finished with a shaped plinth centred with a brass mask and rests on small feet shod with brass hooves. The mahogany veneered interior includes two stable shelves. Stamps and condition. The wooden frame retains an oval ink stamp from a Parisian workshop: “BONNTTOY Upholsterer - Decorator R. De Poissy” (Rue de Poissy, Paris). The locking mechanism's bolts are stamped with the trademark: “D.M. PARIS”. The piece has undergone complete specialised restoration. The surface of the varnish, the marble, and the brass elements are clean and intact. All elements of the brass and tortoiseshell marquetry are perfectly fixed to the support.
