Set of a bench and two Westside armchairs by Ettore Sottsass for Knoll International, 1983 in very good condition and with colors of rare freshness. dimensions bench: 76 x 156 x 64 cm and armchairs each 76 x 98 x 54 cm "Westside" is an emblematic collection of Sottsass started in 1982, two years after the founding of the collective "Memphis". With their refined geometric line and composed of polyurethane foam covered with red, blue and green wool on 4 rectangular legs in black lacquered metal, the sofas and armchairs of this collection pay homage to both Biedermeier furniture and Bauhaus. Despite his iconoclasm, Sottsass had a deep appreciation for ancient art and architecture—particularly Sumerian, Assyrian, and Chinese—hence the decision to photograph the collection against the backdrop of the Great Pyramids of Giza, Egypt. The primary colors and simple form, reminiscent of toy bricks, link this set to the furniture Ettore Sottsass designed for the Memphis firm in the early 1980s, introducing the garish colors and nontraditional forms that defined 1980s postmodern design.
