The Carlton bookcase, Memphis Milano's iconic creation, was designed in 1981 by Ettore Sottsass. Despite its deconstructed appearance, this imposing, colorful totem is expertly balanced and can serve as a room divider. The colored laminate panels are assembled like a house of cards, forming a tribute to instability. The Carlton shelf features two sliding drawers and rests on a thick rectangular base speckled in black and white. Memphis Milano, a group of Milanese designers led by Ettore Sottsass, revolutionized the design world in the 1980s with their bold and colorful approach, introducing new shapes, materials, and patterns. Their work continues to inspire designers worldwide. Ettore Sottsass, known for his innovative approach to design, also created the Treetops floor lamp, which combines functionality and aesthetics in a bold and surprising way.
