Stunning Paimio chair designed by Alvar Aalto in 1931. The chair's structure is built from two loops of laminated birch wood, while the seat is formed by a sheet of plywood bent into elegant curves. Named after the Finnish city of Paimio, where Aalto designed a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients and where the chair found its place in the patients' lounge. In collaboration with Huonekalu-ja Rakennustyötehdas Oy, Aalto began making furniture for the Paimio sanatorium before founding Artek in 1935 to mass-produce their wooden furniture. This early model was manufactured by Huonekalu-ja Rakennustyötehdas Oy in the 1930s and bears the number '2' stamped twice on its underside. The chair has a rich patina and is a true collector's item!
