Restored Gothic desk with side bookshelves, drawer, and sloping top by Pugin Gillows.

We are delighted to offer for sale this exceptional Gothic associated desk dating from around 1840, made of solid oak with an upper drawer, a sloping writing surface, and side bookcases, manufactured either by Gillows of Lancaster or by Pugin. The desk has been restored; the original finish, which was very sticky, has been carefully stripped and then lightly stained and French polished to preserve the period patina. The leather top and sloping writing surface have been replaced with natural aniline leather dyed in whisky brown. Various small repairs in antique wood have been carried out. The dimensions are: height 85.5 cm, width 129 cm, depth 62.5 cm. This item is available for collection from our warehouses in Wimbledon. Please note that period items like this will naturally show signs of wear, such as cracks and creases in the leather.
