Bronze bust of a gentleman with knighthood order – Frantz Vermeylen, 1921
This impressive bronze bust depicts a gentleman wearing a Belgian order of knighthood and was made by the Belgian sculptor Frantz Vermeylen (Marie Pierre François Vermeylen) in 1921. The bronze has a beautifully weathered patina; if you prefer deeper colours, the bronze can be waxed. Vermeylen studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leuven and then at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the studio of Augustin-Alexandre Dumont. He then took over his father’s studio and continued working in his style. A portrait with a strong personality, made by an academically trained sculptor, and a weathered patina that gives the bronze great depth. A statement on a pedestal, mantelpiece or in a library, in a classic interior or as a powerful contrast in a minimalist space. Dimensions: height 66 cm, width 54 cm, depth 34 cm. Material: bronze. Designer/Maker: Frantz Vermeylen. Period: 1921. Origin: Belgium. Condition: good, with weathered patina.
