This magnificent engraving is entitled "battle of la hougue" by the engraver e.c voysard after benjamin west. It represents the battle of barfleur-la hougue, the naval battle during the war of the league of augsburg, which ended in 1692 when the anglo-dutch fleet defeated the french fleet. It was made by etienne claude voysard (1746-1807), a french engraver, engraver of the count of artois, after benjamin west's painting of 1781. The frame measures 47cm (18.5 inches) by 42.5cm (16.5 inches), the engraving measures 29.5cm (11.4 inches) by 27cm (10.6 inches).
