Old etching signed Paolo Caronni "Vision of Ezekiel" 1825

Etching by Paolo Caronni representing the "Vision of Ezekiel, " after the painting of the same name by Raphael, executed between 1516 and 1518. The work illustrates the appearance of God in the sky as described in the biblical Book of Ezekiel, surrounded by two cherubim and supported by the four figures of the tetramorph, representing the symbols of the four evangelists: the angel of Saint Matthew, the lion of Saint Mark, the winged ox of Saint Luke, and the eagle of Saint John. At the bottom, a figure bathed in a ray of light symbolizes Ezekiel. The engraving bears the signature of the engraver Paolo Caronni in the bottom right. In the centre is the name of Vincenzo Raggio, a designer known for his mastery of chiaroscuro and the detailed reproduction of Renaissance iconography. The etching is presented in a wooden frame contemporary to the 19th century, showing slight loss of gilding.
