Superb ashtray that can also serve as a catch-all, made of Italian sommerso glass, probably Murano, from the 1960s. The piece features a remarkable layering of deep cobalt blue glass encased in a bright green outer layer. The freeform shape, with softly undulating contours, fully evokes Italian modernism of the 60s and 70s. The glass is thick and dense (1.850 kg), offering a very beautiful sculptural presence. The characteristic depth and light effects of sommerso give the whole piece a rare chromatic intensity. In very good overall condition. Notable points: – a microscopic chip on the upper outer edge. – a second small discreet chip on the body. These slight marks are only visible up close and are not noticeable from a normal viewing distance. They do not affect the stability or overall aesthetics of the piece. A strong decorative item, ideal for a modernist interior from the 60s, or as a colourful accent on a coffee table.
