A solid Bohemian Art Glass ashtray from the mid-20th century, crafted in intensely vibrant shades of red, orange and amber. The heavy glass body is freely and organically shaped, with deeply recessed recesses and a boldly moulded rim. Particularly striking is the interplay of the different layers of colour: a rich red transitions into a warm orange and is framed by clear glass. The thick walls create intense reflections in the light and an almost glowing colour effect. The imposing, sculptural form is characteristic of the experimental Bohemian art glass of the 1960s. A striking mid-century piece which, in addition to its original use as an ashtray, also works superbly as a vide-poche, a small bowl or a standalone glass object.
