Saint Barbara with a white glazed ceramic tower – 32 cm

Statuette of Saint Barbara in white glazed ceramic, depicted standing, veiled and crowned, holding a tower against her left arm. The modeling of the drapery, the elongated silhouette, and the base with inscription make it an expressive piece of devotion. The base bears "Ste BARBE P.P.N., " an abbreviation for "Pray for us." The tower is a traditional attribute of Saint Barbara, particularly honored by artillerymen, miners, and firefighters. Characteristics: white glazed ceramic, hollow body. Height 32 cm; base 10 × 10 cm, dimensions provided by the seller. There is an opening at the back and an opening at the top of the crown; their function on this piece is not established. Palm absent. Condition: numerous chips and areas of missing glaze revealing the brown paste, particularly on the face and nose, on the crown, hand, drapery, tower, and base. Network of cracks, visible wear and dirt. Sold as is, with the missing parts photographed; detail views are part of the description. Origin and period: not established. The Breton departmental museum holds a comparable model of Saint Barbara attributed to the HB factory in Quimper; this iconographic comparison does not allow for the attribution or dating of the present statuette.
