From the age of thirteen andré taeckens (1906-1965) was apprenticed to stonemason aleyn. Later he took modelling lessons at the art academy in ghent with geo verbanck. He became a sculptor and designer of medals. His preference went to figures, torsos, busts and portraits. He worked mainly with bronze, marble and stone.
