Pair of Superleggera (= very light) chairs, model 699. designed by Gio Ponti from 1951-1957 for Cassina Italy. A modern design icon, and one of the most celebrated designs by this Italian master. Its name expresses the Milanese architect’s desire to create the lightest chair possible. That took him years to perfect, paring down the triangular section of the legs to only 18 millimeters to reach the actual minimum weight of just 1,700 grams. The result is amazing; so light and yet so strong and comfortable. And besides that the chair is also very elegant. A true master-piece. The chair have a solid ash frame, one lacquered in black and one in red. Both in its original paint. Also the woven Indian cane seats are still original. The chairs are marked with the original 'Figli di Amadeo Cassina' label, which implies that these chairs are early ones and originate from the late 1950s/1960s. The chairs are in very good original condition. The seats are excellent, the frames have some traces of wear, like tiny losses of paint and superficial scratches.
