Bentwood tripod side table in the manner of Thonet, with a hand-carved folk art dish top. The base is steam-bent beech, with three laminated curved legs fixed with slotted nickel-plated screws, a turned central column with a finial, and three small scrolled braces. The round top is a turned dished plate, hand-carved with a punched, stippled ground, tulip motifs around a central rosette, a looped border, and fine metal wire inlay. The top appears to be Polish or Carpathian folk art, possibly Tatra/Zakopane. It was probably combined with the base at a later date, so it should be considered an associated top. Measurements: height 59 cm, top diameter 41 cm, leg span 47 cm. Dating: bentwood base early to mid-20th century in the Thonet tradition, carved top mid-20th century (circa 1950s–1970s). The two were probably combined later. Condition: good vintage condition with honest signs of age. The carving and base are solid and the table stands stable. There is a small nail or screw in the centre of the rosette and a piece of the metal inlay beneath the rosette has lifted. The underside of the top has a glossy varnish with some whitish bloom. The legs show light surface wear and small marks, and some separation between the laminated layers at the foot ends. A characterful side table or plant stand with a strong hand-worked top.
