Art deco display cabinet by Lingel in excellent original condition. The first Hungarian wooden furniture factory was founded in 1864 by Karóly Lingel under the name Lingel Karóly and Sons. Initially, they produced wooden objects, mouldings, and frames, and it was not until the early 19th century that furniture production began. By 1867, the workshop, then small, had grown so much that it produced the coronation accessories for St. Matthias Church during the coronation of Franz Joseph I. It also contributed to the decoration of Buda Castle, the People's Theatre, the Gellért Hotel, and St. Elizabeth Church in Rose Square. The new factory catalogue from 1914 reflects its evolution, featuring many new products and a wide selection of modern office furniture. In the 1920s, a decisive step was taken: after modern office furniture, modern home furniture followed. They quickly became one of the most well-known furniture manufacturers in the country. Lingel broke the trends of the time in the office furniture industry by following the then-leading American trends. Their furniture was not a mere imitation, but an adaptation of ideas combined with technical improvements.
