Somno “Column” or Cylindrical Cabinet, in flamed mahogany, Copenhagen, 1830-1840

Oval-shaped column cabinet, also called a cylindrical cabinet/wardrobe, barrel cabinet, or column cabinet. Beautiful, hand-varnished mahogany in very good condition. Beautifully lit. Door framed by two large columns ending in a carved wooden palmette. Lock and key in perfect condition. The door opens onto four solid mahogany shelves and a mahogany interior, in very good condition, which provides generous storage space. The back of the cabinet is flat, allowing it to be placed against a wall. This cabinet can be used as a pedestal column for a statue, clock, flower vase, or other decorative objects. Style similar to that of the cabinetmaker François Baudry (1791-1859), a fan of the curved shapes of the Restoration period.
