Somno “Column” or Cylindrical Cabinet, in flamed mahogany, Copenhagen, 1830-1840

Somno column, oval in shape, also called cylindrical cabinet/armoire, barrel cabinet, column cabinet. Very beautiful french-varnished mahogany in very good condition. Beautiful brightness. Door framed by 2 large columns ending with a palmette, in carved wood. Lock entry and key in perfect condition. The door opens onto 4 shelves in solid mahogany and a mahogany interior, in very good condition, which offers generous storage space. The back of the somno is flat, which allows it to be placed against a wall. This somno can be used as a pedestal column for a statue, clock, flower vase and other decorative objects. Style to be compared to the cabinetmaker françois baudry (1791-1859), a follower of the curved shapes of the restoration period.
