Somno Cylindrical Cabinet Column, in flamed mahogany, Copenhagen 1830-1840

Oval-shaped column somno, also called a cylindrical cabinet/wardrobe, barrel cabinet, or column cabinet. Beautiful, french-varnished mahogany in very good condition. Beautiful brightness. Door framed by two large columns ending in a palmette, in carved wood. Lock and key in perfect condition. The door opens onto four solid mahogany shelves and a mahogany interior, in very good condition, which offers generous storage space. The back of the somno is flat, allowing it to be placed against a wall. This somno can be used as a pedestal column for a statue, clock, flower vase, and other decorative objects. Style similar to that of the cabinetmaker François Baudry (1791-1859), a fan of the curved shapes of the Restoration period.
