Two Napoleon III boxes in blackened wood with brass inlays – 19th century. An elegant set consisting of two blackened wood boxes, adorned with brass inlays and central cartouches, typical of Napoleon III production. The large box, rectangular in shape, features a simple and refined decoration with a double framing of inlays and a blank central cartouche. It is fitted with a brass keyhole with a ring. The small box, with a shaped design, offers an elegant silhouette and a more discreet matching decoration. The interior of the large box is lined with silk and has a decorative textile frame, indicating its likely function to hold jewellery or precious items. The small box has a natural wood interior. Dimensions. Large box: approximately 20 X 13 cm. Small box: approximately 11 X 7 cm. Condition. Overall good condition with signs of use: Wear to the varnish and blackened wood. Small scratches and scuffs. Interior silk of the large box stained and worn. Period. Second half of the 19th century – Napoleon III period. Remarks. A decorative set very representative of the Napoleon III taste, appreciated for curiosity cabinets and classic interiors.
