Roger Capron coffee table

This coffee table is a marvel as much for its silhouette, as friendly as it is circular, its lines with warm materials, but above all it exudes such a presence that it is a prized piece of furniture for amateurs who spontaneously recognize here, the "touch" that confirms the signature of Roger Capron. The ceramic top was created by the artist in his Vallauris studio in the 60s, and is part of a period where "garrigue" and "herbarium" colored in some way the productions of the artist. And if Vallauris has accustomed us more to ceramics and pottery of all kinds, here, the extension of this art to interior furniture only brings an added value that everyone will appreciate. The ceramic tiles, in stoneware called "grand feu" illustrated with prints and foliage, breathe the perfumes of Provence of which they are the witnesses in some way immortalized. Thus inserted in the earth, they leave forever the trace of a varied botanical life. Roger Capron (1922-2006) was indeed distinguished by his beautiful tables, some high, others rectangular, but it is probably the low and circular tables, like this one, which best express the search for simplicity, the artist's desire to allow guests to meet, which he himself did not shy away from. Thus, this beautiful tray of nearly 120 pieces, uses a particular technique called "Pietra Dura" (a kind of marquetry with hard stones) with 56 ceramic panels of different shapes gathered together, each representing original and distinct tree leaves, a kind of artificial fossils with the most beautiful effect. The base, usually in oak at R.Capron, here has 4 legs, each double. The whole is mounted overhanging the tray, but joined by a flat spacer, for a wooden base, with a very fine, rather modern look, when others are more massive and less elegant. It is an exceptional achievement!
