Roger Capron coffee table

This coffee table is a marvel both for its silhouette, as friendly as it is circular, its lines with warm materials, but above all it gives off such a presence that it is a piece of furniture prized by enthusiasts who spontaneously recognize here, the "paw" that confirms the signature of Roger Capron. The ceramic tray was created by the artist in his Vallauris workshop in the 1960s, and is part of a period when "scrubland" and "herbarium" colored the artist's productions in some way. And if Vallauris has made us more accustomed to ceramics and pottery of all kinds, here, the extension of this art to interior furniture only brings added value that everyone will appreciate. The ceramic tiles, in so-called “grand feu” sandstone, illustrated with prints and foliage, breathe the scents of Provence of which they are immortalized witnesses. Thus inserted into the earth, they forever leave the trace of a varied botanical life. Roger Capron (1922-2006) was indeed distinguished by his beautiful tables, some high, others rectangular but it is probably the low and circular tables, like this one which best express the search for simplicity, the desire of the artist to allow the guests meetings which he himself did not mind. Thus, this beautiful tray of nearly 120 pieces, uses a particular technique called "Pietra Dura" (a sort of marquetry with hard stones) with 56 ceramic panels of different shapes brought together, each representing original and distinct tree leaves. , a sort of artificial fossil with the most beautiful effect. The base, usually in oak at R.Capron, here has 4 legs, each double. The whole is mounted overhanging the top, but joined by a flat spacer, for a wooden base, with a very fine, rather modern look, when others are more massive and less elegant. This is an exceptional achievement!
