Beautiful and fine drawing representing an iris in blue and green tones with a charming frame. I managed to decipher the name of guiseppe canacci, painter, engraver and printer in florence at the end of the 18th century, beginning of the 19th century. The second name could be baldassarre benvenuti, the artist who made the drawing. This drawing led me to the old work "materia medica vegetabile" where the italian naturalist savi gaetano lists the flora of the florence region, a work printed by giuseppe canacci in 1805 whose drawings are not in color, but of which there is also a folio which reproduces these drawings after coloring and which would date from the same period. Some pages and therefore some drawings of this work are visible online, they are quite similar in their layout to the one presented here. But I cannot say whether this drawing is an original from this folio or from a later edition or whether it is a more recent copy (i have not taken it out of its frame and am not a specialist in this field anyway), so I will let you make up your own mind. It has a few stains, including water stains at the bottom, at the edge with the frame and small dark stains elsewhere and has a note embossed in the paper. The frame is made of solid light-coloured wood (pine?) tending towards orange-yellow, the mouldings of which have been enhanced with a golden tint tending towards olive green. It is in good general condition, solid, glass intact, but has various defects, original or not, small marks, small losses. The frame measures 46 cm by 38 cm.
